MONGOLIA TRAVEL MEALS AND VEGETERIAN FOOD

MONGOLIA TRAVEL MEALS

In Ulaanbaatar, we can choose from the best European and Mongolian restaurants. Ger camps serve European and Mongolian food in the countryside.
Meat is the main ingredient for lunch and dinner. Generally, Mongolian cuisine contains more meat. A traditional Mongolian meal can be found in nomads' homes and at local food courts.

Ger Camp Meals

A typical tourist ger camp breakfast consists of tea, coffee, bread, jam, butter, eggs, sausage, cookies, cheese, cereals, and pancakes.

They serve salads, Mongolian soups, and main courses (pasta, rice, vegetables, beef/mutton/chicken/fish near lakes/rivers) and dessert with tea for lunch. Below pictures are Khanbogd ger camp lunch and picnic lunch pictures.

The dinner menu will include a salad, a main course, a dessert, and tea.

If you are a vegetarian or have dietary restrictions, please inform us in advance. We will arrange meals accordingly.

Vegetarian Food in Mongolia

There are several vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Ulaanbaatar. Majority of ordinary meal restaurants also serve vegetarian options.

Previously informing your dietary restrictions and requirements to your travel agency, hosts, and guide is advisable.
When you get an organized tour, countryside accommodation ger camps serve protein-rich vegetarian and vegan meals. Although, the fresh and green vegetable option is scarce depending on the season and remoteness of the ger camp location.

Independent travelers usually have language and availability issues when ordering meals in the local areas. Due to Mongolian’s low vegetable consumption and the tendency that the local people not to consider vegetables as meals that can provide protein and nutrients in harsh climatic conditions, some local food areas serve meals without vegetables.

If you visit and stay with nomadic families, you better inform them beforehand. Thus, your nomadic hosts can get vegetable supply, which is not their daily consumption.
